“Adults admire their environment; they can remember it and think about it – but a child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul. He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear.” – Maria Montessori
The Montessori pre-school principle “THE BEST FOR THE SMALLEST” is applied within our environment. The nursery environment is very homely and has access to a garden. There are different areas for different activities in the environment: quiet activities, lively activities, floor activities and tables for working at.
In the Toddler Montessori environment the furniture is child size, colourful, attractive and light enough for them to move. There are many shelves, all at the small child’s height. On these shelves are small trays on which all the things for one particular activity are arranged. Every piece of material has its own specific place. The children know exactly where to find everything, and return each piece of equipment to its correct place. The materials are grouped and kept together according to the level of development to which they correspond. It is graded from easy to difficult. As everything fits the child, he feels secure and loved in the 15 – 3 year Montessori environment.
The toilets are also child size and easy for them to use. This is the potty training class and there is a nappy changing area with the toilets.
